My Favourite Math Thing - Rain Man

This movie holds a very special and sentimental place in my heart. I remember I watched this movie with my dad at home, he bought the DVD of this movie which sounds so old-fashioned nowadays. This story is not really about math, but Raymond from the movie is a brilliant man who has a photographic memory and an exceptional, impressive ability of calculations.

The movie's talking point was about the brotherhood of two long-lost brothers, and one of the brothers, Raymond has autism. Autism is a real-world condition and formerly known as "autism spectrum disorder". Later on, after doing some research, savant syndrome came up in many pieces of research. Savant syndrome is a rare condition in which someone with significant mental disabilities demonstrates certain abilities far in excess of average which Raymond is. Not everyone who has savant syndrome is good at math particularly but some of them may have great memory skills.

In the movie, Raymond's brother Charlie used him to play cards in the casino by using Raymond's photographic memory. In real life, people like that do exist and counting cards in the casino does exist as well. Math can be used anywhere and math can make you money as well! (Joking).
